Poisoning the Well
Maggie Corey’s marriage and professional life have imploded and she’s ready to start her life over.
She’s come to Hope’s Crossing to manage her aunt’s herb shop, that she took over after her murder. The apparent death of a terrible foe provides relief and the hope that she can start her life anew with her boyfriend, Carl, and his daughter, Nellie. After securing a place to call home, things are starting to look up.
Nellie is enjoying fifth grade by day and lessons in herbs and witchcraft by night. While Maggie is clearly a good witch, they know that Hope’s Crossing isn’t kind to witches so they must teach Nellie to be responsible and discreet with her powers. Finding time for lessons is hard with sales at the herb store picking up—the shop has become more popular.
A strange series of suicides springs up and someone dear to Carl is the latest victim. Maggie’s cat, Bramble[AT4] , detects dark magic surrounding the victim’s possessions, and Maggie must step in to avoid another incident like what happened last summer. They discover that the killer is being influenced by magic that compels him to take violent action and they fear for Nellie’s safety.
All that’s clear is that people are dying and Maggie can’t seem to help. She must find who has been possessed banish the hex before it goes too far—she must do it to keep her new family and her new home safe.
